Pipkin takes his tax message to the Web

Does Maryland have a taxing problem or a spending problem?

All sorts of people have been on Lawyer’s Mall in Annapolis over the past few days – alternatively protesting and advocating various components of the bills now before the special session of the General Assembly. Taking the message to the streets seems to be effective in garnering press coverage and catching the ears of officials, but others are hoping that their arguments travel further on the Web.

Sen. E.J. Pipkin, R-Upper Shore, an outspoken opponent of tax increases and a former U.S. Senate candidate, is one of those people. He’s collecting digital signatures for a petition on a Web site he’s launched.

The petition focuses on the Republican dictum we’ve heard regularly as lawmakers work to close a $1.5 billion budget deficit: “I agree that Maryland has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.”

What do you think?

Congrats on the substance-free website, E.J., but what spending problems are you and your fellow Republican blowhards proposing to cut?

What do I think? I think that O'Malley has lost his mind. He came in to office with a BILLION dollar surplus and spent it all. Thats fine, it's his purvue to do that. The fact that 11 months after he spends it, he is now saying it never existed is bogus.
Frankly, when my car breaks down and I need a new one, I don't get to go to my boss and say "Give me $20,000 for a new one". That is PRECISELY what O'Malley is doing.
Lastly, remember, folks: if we don't spend any more than we spent last year... $1.3 Billion of this so called crisis disappears.... Most of this crisis only exists because MOM wants to spend more than he has. If the citizens can't do it, why should he be allowed to?
